Port forwarding allows you to open specific ports on the DG4244 so that incoming traffic from the internet can be directed to a specific device on your local network. This can be useful for services such as game servers, security cameras, or self-hosted applications.

Cable internet delivers internet service over the same '''coaxial cable infrastructure''' traditionally used for cable television. In most modern deployments, it uses DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) to carry IP data between the customer’s cable modem and the service provider.
One important characteristic of cable internet is that portions of the DOCSIS network are shared among customers connected to the same service or node. That does not mean everyone can see everyone else's traffic. DOCSIS has mechanisms to separate and protect customer communications.

This is one reason congestion can sometimes appear during busy periods.

==DOCSIS System==
DOCSIS, is an international telecommunications standard that enables high-speed internet service over existing coaxial cable television networks. It defines how cable modems and gateways communicate with the service provider’s network equipment, including downstream and upstream data transmission, channel allocation, modulation, device registration, and network management.

Newer DOCSIS versions, including DOCSIS 3.0 and 3.1, provide higher speeds, increased network capacity, and improved efficiency. These improvements are achieved through technologies such as channel bonding, wider spectrum utilization, and more advanced modulation techniques.

== Accessing your modem's logs ==
An occasional DOCSIS warning does not necessarily indicate a service problem. However, frequent or repeated timeouts, channel losses, ranging failures, or registration errors, particularly when they occur at the same time as disconnects or slow speeds, can indicate radio frecuency signal problems, noise, cabling issues, congestion, or problems within the cable network.
