This page outlines some resources for getting help with broader computer issues.
Computer Help
NCF is focussed on getting you connected to the internet with functional email and ability to browse to web pages. Most other issues regarding your computer setup, handling virus protection, programs, operating systems, setting up a browser or getting basic computer skills are more than the small group of staff and volunteers at NCF can help you with.
It's a busy time just getting everyone connected, and managing connection difficulties, moves and changes to member accounts. This Wiki page will help you find resources to help with other computer challenges you might face.
While NCF does not endorse any specific service listed here, and has not specifically tried them, we hope this list saves you a bit of work in finding a service that works for you. Ask questions about cost up front, and be wary of services that seek only to sell you new tools or gear you may not need. You may want to share your experiences on the NCF discussion pages to help others decide too.
Computer Courses and Classes
Ottawa Public Library
The Ottawa Public Library has a variety of basic computer courses available.
Alternatively, for branch course offereings, you can:
- go to the Library program page
- select a specific branch using the drop-down menu, or leave it blank to view all branch offerings
- under "Event type", select "Computers and Technology"
- select an audience type (family, teen, or adult-oriented programming, for example)
- click "Submit" to view upcoming programs.
If you need help registering for the programs, you can:
- access the help page for program registration
- contact your local branch
- call Infoservice at 613-580-2940 anytime that the Main Library is open.
Computers for Communities
The Ottawa Chapter of Computers For Communities, a locally operated not for profit community organization, provides refurbished computers, hands-on experiential education, Internet access and job skills training in exchange for community service.
