NCF uses two different passwords for modems and user accounts. Although these are explained on the various modem configuration pages, this article is intended to bring information on passwords into one location.
Different passwords
Here are the different passwords that NCF uses:
- Your NCF password (account password)
- This is the password that you chose for your NCF account when you signed up. It must consist of 6, 7 or 8 numbers and letters, no other characters are allowed.
- Your DSL password
- This is the password assigned that allows your DSL modem to sign onto the internet via Bell's wired network. It typically consists of 12 letters and numbers starting with "ncf". When you picked up your modem it will have been supplied to you along wityh instructions on a piece of paper. If you have lost it the NCF office can look it up for you.
Password uses
Here are the places that NCF passwords are used:
- Signing into the page - your NCF password (this password can be changed by you anytime)
- Signing into webmail - your NCF password (this password can be changed by you anytime)
- Signing onto File Transfer Protocol (FTP) at ftp.ncf.ca to upload a web page - your NCF password (this password can be changed by you anytime)
- Having your dial-up modem sign onto NCF dial-up service - your NCF password (this password can be changed by you anytime)
- Your DSL modem signing onto the internet - your DSL password (this password cannot be changed or else your modem will not connect)
- Signing into your DSL modem admin account to view the modem interface - your DSL password (this password can be changed by you anytime on the modem interface)
- Signing a device onto your wireless connection to your DSL modem to connect to the internet - your DSL password (this password can be changed by you anytime on the modem interface)
Note - The older Speedtouch 585 wireless modems sold by NCF until December 2011 come with a programmed wifi password, which is given on the label on the bottom of the unit. NCF did not change these when they were shipped to members, but you can change them by signing onto the interface.
Changing your password
Your NCF password
Your NCF password can be changed by you any time here. This will change the password used to sign into the start page, email, FTP and dial-up service.
Your DSL password
This strong password is used by your DSL modem to sign onto the internet and cannot be changed or your model will not connect.
NCF also programs DSL modems to use this same password for wifi and to sign into the modem admin interface. These uses of the password can be changed in the modem interface. If you change either of these passwords use a strong password that will be hard to guess to protect your security.
